Reunion Update

Dear Fellow 89ers,

What an awesome picnic we had last Saturday! Thank you to all of you who joined us. It was a full day of fun and reminiscing! For those of you who could not join us on Saturday, please join us Friday night for our 6PM Mass at Kristo Rai and 6PM to 11PM at PIC for our formal banquet, and then at Glenna's residence for the 89er After-Party from 11PM to bolachu. ;)

Daisy distributed over 50 tickets on Saturday to the banquet. Can you please turn in your payments by Wednesday so we will know how we are doing on our ticket sales? Our banquet reunion is going to be awesome. We have a lot of great prizes being donated by several companies, fantastic food, a ton of drinks, a professional photo booth, live music courtesy of Vince Torres, a slideshow presentation and complimentary DVD's (turn in your pictures by today if you haven't done so already via e-mail), among other things. Tickets are only $25 for five hours of fun!! We were able to reduce the guaranteed number of tickets to 60 and keep it at the same price. We can't go any lower, as the original deal I got was for 100 people. So please, buy your tickets. You can buy more than two tickets if you like. Your family is our family. Bring a guest or two or more as your family is our family and the more the merrier! Just be sure they are 21 and over. The most important thing here is that we come together to celebrate as one family.

Glenna Reyes is throwing an after-party for our 89ers after the banquet. We are most grateful for all the nights she has hosted us and she is once again extending an invitation to continue in on the fun. Obviously, there is a lot of planning that goes in to this as well and it would be helpful if you could let me know if you are planning on attending. I know we are feeling a bit older sometimes, but Saturday night, as Prince said, "We're gonna party like it's 1999." Glenna, thank you again for your kind hospitality, patience, and work in hosting your fellow 89ers all these nights.

Claire Dela Cruz sent a heartfelt letter and wanted to wish all of us a wonderful time. She regrets she is unable to make it as she has a work-related trip at the same time, but went ahead and sent a monetary donation. I cashed in and am heading to the Bahamas after the reunion..hehe. Claire, thank you so much and know that you are with us in our hearts and minds. Please e-mail me an updated pic of you and your family for the slideshow.

Ed Guiao and Brenda Renguul are on island and traveled so far to be with us. Thank you Ed and Brenda! I took Ed out Sunday night and was in the doghouse Monday morning. Everything is okay, as Daisy let me sleep on the couch last night. Whew!

There are so many to thank so I will save that for a separate formal letter. Please know that it's been 20 years later, but we are 20 years greater...in patience, love, understanding, and kindness. Thank you for giving what you can and for doing what you can to make our reunion a most memorable one. We are all so busy, with our family, work, and other things, but let us take a couple of nights out to come together for our 89 family.

We have had our disagreements and debates and arguments in the past, but that is normal and healthy in any family! The most important thing is that we forgive and never stop loving each other. I'm sorry to sound all mushy, but it is important to know this. If I offended anyone, I truly apologize and please know that I am as often wrong as I may think I am right and that we are all human. I will buy you a shot Saturday night and give you a hug if you let me. ;) One Family. One Love.

Remember, Mass is 6PM Friday night at Kristo Rai Church, and our banquet is Saturday night from 6PM to 11PM at PIC.

Biba Dolphins! Biba 89!

The 89 blog spot was announced (http://mhsclassof89.blogspot.com/) and everyone was encouraged to look for high school photos to add the the blog and for an 89 slideshow at our reunion.

The official date for our reunion was approved by all in attendance. The date is set for Saturday, June 13, 2009. The date is significant since it will mark exactly 20 years to the day that we graduated.

It was suggested that we hold a potluck-style family fun day picnic a week before the reunion. Everyone agreed. Saturday, June 6, 2009 is set for the 89 family barbecue. Greg Calvo was nominated to be the chairperson and graciously accepted. The event will be held at the Minachom Atdao at Kilili Beach Park. Jesse Palacios volunteered to reserve it with Parks and Rec. Greg Calvo will put together committees and lay out plans and assign duties at out next meeting.

The attire for our class reunion on June 13 will be island-formal wear. A search for a venue is ongoing. Quotes will be solicited for the following hotels with 89ers volunteering to get the info: Pacific Islands Club Saipan (Ed Propst); Fiesta Resort (Jenn Rosario); Saipan World Resort (Marvin Seman); Aqua Resort (Elizabeth Concepcion); Palms Resort, formerly known as Nikko Hotel Saipan (Gernadine Camacho).

It was recommended and agreed that we also have a Class of 89 Mass. It was agreed and the date was set for Friday, June 12, 2009, at Garapan’s Kristo Rai Church. Erlinda has volunteered to get information from Kristo Rai and to confirm our Celebration Mass.

With regard to fundraising activities, it was recommended and agreed that any fundraiser gives all of its profits to Marianas High School and not to our reunion. Alumni members are always encouraged to give back to their schools. Everyone is encouraged to put away $10 each month to save up for the reunion.

Other topics discussed:

  • Invite former advisors and teachers.
  • Reminder to go to mhsclassof89.blogspot.com and to e-mail Ed pictures of high school days. Ed will also volunteer to scan in pictures.

Next meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2009, at 6:00PM. We also can have it at someone else’s place for future meetings, so if anyone would like to volunteer their house for future meetings, please e-mail me at edpropst@gmail.com. Setting a DATE for the Reunion

89ers: Kimo, Jenn, Leona, Daisy, Erlinda, and Jesse

We had our first MHS Class of 89 20 year reunion meeting last night. Attendance was meager, but it didn't stop us from having a good time reminiscing about the good ol' days!

Since we graduated on June 13, it was suggested that we hold our reunion on the same day, which happens to fall on a Saturday. Many who are off island need to plan, so setting a date is most urgent. Please share with us your thoughts on this proposed date and make comments below.

Our next meeting will be on Friday, February 6, at the Propst residence in Susupe, but we can also hold it at someone else's house if they would like to volunteer their place. For more info, please call 483-7361.

Go 89ers!

Regards,
Ed Propst
